[wanabidii] Should schools provide condoms to students?

Sunday, February 09, 2014
Ms Rehema, are we talking about sex promotion or promotion of a safe sex? Logically the answer is almost the same.
Biologically an adult is a someone who has reached puberty, (fr. 12years onwards) , but Socially and Psychologicaly a 12 year boy/girl is a child.
Here the logic shows that we all need safe sex (even a boy/girl of 12 deserves to get a condom as she/he feels like making love). Now how are we going to discuss with such young children about safe sex when giving or when they come to ask for condoms? Is that not promotion of sex activity to them? Theoretically it is easy to say, "NO", but morally isn't.
Then are we suppose to leave pie as pie? No! the changes we see in our modern world are huge. We must look for better solutions which suit our societies traditionally, morally, materially and even socially. For this matter, condoms is not a major solution. I would suggest The Ministry of National Education to include this matter as one of the subject/topic to be taught in our primary, vocational and secondary schools in a simple way. If traditionaly we are taught some issues like sex intercouse when we attend JANDO CAMPS/CIRCUMCISSION for the boys or MSONDO CAMPS/KUALIKWA-kuchezwa ngoma for the girls, why can't it be possible scientifically at schools where we have trained staff. I believe this will give a relief to parents who don't have a significant knowledge or can,t discuss with their children for varius reasons about sex. Teaching directions should be conducted nationwide but parents of the child (especially in primary schools) should be asked for their acceptance.
