Dear Colleagues,

Greetings from the African Academy of Sciences, Nairobi.

The African Academy of Sciences is pleased to announce the start of a 5-year £4.85 million Climate Impacts Research Capacity and Leadership Enhancement ("CIRCLE") programme in sub-Saharan Africa.  .  The programme is funded by United Kingdom's Department for International (DFID) and aims at strengthening institutional research in addition to providing 100 research fellowships from 2013 - 2018. The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) will be implementing this project. An inception phase involving a survey of interest in the program will be conducted over the next 3 months to confirm sufficient interest to secure approval of implementing the program at full-scale as envisaged with the funding level of £4.85 million.

Please find attached a press release of the announcement which I believe you will assist us to circulate using your many contacts including the media in the countries that you are working as well as other interested stakeholders in the sciences.  We will subsequently also send you a survey questionnaire to help us gauge level of interest in this important initiative.

Kindly confirm receipt of this mail and your willingness in helping circulate this message widely. Please, you may also assist by kindly printing copies of this press release and displaying strategically for potential candidates. I will be happy to respond to any questions you may want to ask so do not hesitate to contact me on b.gyampoh@aasciences.org or call +254728741632.

Sincerely,

Benji Gyampoh
