Married men and women shamelessly on the prowl
Updated Sunday, August 18th 2013 at 17:19 GMT +3By SHIRLEY GENGA
I love reality television (and yes I am not ashamed), with everything from R and B divas, to Real House Wives of Atlanta, to Real Husbands of Hollywood.
That is how I found myself on one afternoon last weekend watching Marriage Boot Camp: Bridezillas, a marriage reality show that turned out to be thoroughly entertaining.
The reality show puts five couples under one roof and then proceeds to put them through different training in a bid to save their marriages. The show also trains participating couples to behave as married people.
Marriage Boot Camp deals with everything from a husband who would rather die (literally) than show his wife the contents of his phone, to a married woman who thought it was "very okay" to receive texts and phone calls from other men late in the night.
Philandering
It got me thinking about marriage (which is on its death bed, at least in my opinion), and how someone need to come up with a boot camp to also teach married people here how to act married. Apparently, many married people operate like teenagers without a sense of decorum, loyalty or responsibility.
Married people these days, do not seem to know how to behave, or even how to pretend to be married. Some, I suspect, do not even understand or remember their vows.
They do not seem to know what is inappropriate anymore. They all want to live life without boundaries. Yet they publicly promised (with a smile I might add) to dedicate their lives to their better half.
They don't seem to understand that they are not supposed to be the last people to leave the club. Neither do they even comprehend that it is a violation to date on the sides.
Hit the dating scene today and married people both men and women are all over the place like a bad case of flu that will not go away. I do not know about other fabulous singles out there, but I don't want to mingle with married men.
When I am in the mood to go on the prowl and I make the effort to look all sexy and nice, I expect to be hit on by single men. I do not want to deal with angry wives and innocent children caught in the crossroads of a philandering father.
Mingle
So you can understand my predicament and that of other singles. It's annoying when half or more of the people looking for love are married men and women pretending to be single and ready to mingle. Then there are the married people who do not even bother to hide the fact that they are married. Disappointingly, most of them cry to anyone who will give them an ear to explain how their spouses seem not to be the "ones".
Often behaving like those who do not agree with their philandering ways are prude, and like they are the victims of marriage or something (like someone held a shotgun to their head and forced them to say "I do". Please!).
It is official. Married people have gone rogue, and a marriage boot camp is needed here — quick.
