Press Releases: Department of State Announces Host Sites for Fishackathon 2016 02/08/2016 10:39 AM EST Department of State Announces Host Sites for Fishackathon 2016 Media Note Office of the Spokesperson Washington, DC February 8, 2016 The U.S. Department of State announced today participating cities for the third annual Fishackathon, taking place on Earth Day weekend from April 22-24, 2016. Fishackathon is a public-private partnership that aims to capitalize on the expansion of mobile phone and internet use across the developing world to address sustainable fishery challenges. The annual Fishackathon event calls on coders and science enthusiasts from all around the world to come together to create new applications and tools for use on mobile phones and other devices, which can help fishers work smarter and more safely in sustainable fishing. The Secretary’s Office of Global Partnerships organized the inaugural Fishackathon around the Secretary’s Our Ocean conference in 2014. The 2014 Fishackathon took place at aquariums and tech hubs in five cities across the United States, and the 2015 event expanded to twelve cities around the world. The 2016 Fishackathon will be held in over 30 cities internationally: United States and Canada Atlanta, GA Charleston, SC Dallas, TX Long Beach, CA Monterey, CA New York City, NY Portland, OR San Francisco, CA Seattle, WA Tampa, FL Toronto, Canada Vancouver, Canada Washington, DC Worcester, MA Latin America and the Caribbean Hamilton, Bermuda Kingston, Jamaica Medellín, Colombia Mexico City, Mexico Santiago, Chile San José, Costa Rica Asia/Pacific Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Hong Kong Jakarta, Indonesia Kaohsiung, Taiwan Manila, Philippines Sydney, Australia Taipei, Taiwan Europe Amsterdam, Netherlands Izmir, Turkey London, UK Rome, Italy Africa Cape Town, South Africa For further information on Fishackathon and events in each city, please visit fishackathon.co or contact the Secretary’s Office of Global Partnerships at partnerships@state.gov.
