On the Occasion of the Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Burkina Faso

Press Statement
John Kerry
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
December 11, 2015

On behalf of President Obama and the citizens of the United States, I congratulate the people of Burkina Faso on the 55th anniversary of your nation’s independence.

The elections which you held on November 29 showed the world your commitment to democracy and your steadfast desire to overcome adversity and build a free, stable, and prosperous country. The United States strongly supports you in this effort and looks forward to working closely with your new leaders as they strive to improve governance, provide security, and create enhanced economic opportunities for your people.

On this special day, as Burkina Faso begins a new chapter in its history, you should know that the United States values its friendship with you and that all Americans wish you well.
