The various food scandals that have hit Europe over the years, such as the horse meat one in 2013, show how important it is to know where your food comes from. Today MEPs will debate a proposal to make it obligatory to indicate on the labels of all processed food, such as lasagne, where the meat in it originates. Showing where meat used as an ingredient was produced ensures better traceability along the food supply chain and helps food businesses to better select their suppliers and products.
