Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues Catherine Russell will travel to London December 2–5 for the London Conference on Afghanistan. On Wednesday, December 3, Ambassador Russell will speak at Ayenda, a civil society event that means “future” in Dari. Her remarks will highlight how civil society can protect and advance progress for Afghan women and girls, thereby helping to secure a stable and prosperous future for Afghanistan. Throughout the conference, Ambassador Russell will also meet with Afghan government and civil society leaders and representatives of participating governments. This trip builds on Ambassador Russell’s recent visit to Norway, where she led the U.S. delegation at the Oslo Symposium on Advancing Women’s Rights and Empowerment in Afghanistan. The November 23 symposium convened participants from the international community and women’s rights activists to discuss how to solidify the gains made in Afghanistan over the last 12 years and further empower Afghan women and girls.
