Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Tom Malinowski will visit Hanoi, Vietnam, October 22-26, where he will engage with government officials and local civil society representatives.

Assistant Secretary Malinowski will discuss the importance of demonstrable progress on human rights to furthering U.S.-Vietnam bilateral ties, including on security assistance and economic cooperation. As part of ongoing dialogue within the U.S.-Vietnam Comprehensive Partnership, Assistant Secretary Malinowski will encourage Vietnam to ratify the Convention Against Torture and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities as soon as possible and to fully implement its international human rights obligations, including under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

From October 27-28, he will visit Seoul, Republic of Korea, where he will meet with government officials, civil society leaders, North Korean defectors, and democracy and human rights program implementers, in order to continue the international community's momentum to address the egregious human rights situation in the DPRK.
