Ambassador Thomas A. Shannon, Counselor of the Department of State, will travel to Mexico City and Tapachula, Mexico, from July 13-16. Counselor Shannon will attend the International Migration and Development Colloquium, a conference co-hosted by the Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Relations and the Holy See. While in Mexico, Counselor Shannon will meet with the foreign ministers of Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras to follow up on their July 3 discussion about the increase in unaccompanied minors migrating to the United States. He will also visit Tapachula to observe Mexico's implementation of its new Southern Border Strategy, which seeks to leverage technology and international cooperation to better respond to migration challenges along its border with Guatemala.
