The United States strongly condemns yesterday’s attack on MINUSMA, the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali, that killed four Chadian UN peacekeepers and wounded others, including members of the Malian Armed Forces. We express our condolences to the families of those killed and to the Governments of Chad and Mali, and wish those wounded a full recovery. We call on the Government of Mali to immediately investigate the incident and hold those responsible to account. This attack comes days after the signatory armed groups to the Ouagadougou Preliminary Agreement signed an agreement brokered in Algiers, recommitting these groups to a peace process with the Government of Mali. We reiterate our full support to MINUSMA to stabilize Mali and restore state of authority in the North. We are grateful to the brave men and women serving in the mission. |
