The United States and Honduras held the 4th round of the Bilateral Human Rights Working Group in Tegucigalpa today. The two sides discussed progress and challenges in the human rights situation in Honduras and reaffirmed their commitment to work together to protect and promote human rights. The meeting covered themes including reforming the security sector, combatting impunity, strengthening human rights institutions, and collaborating with civil society. The Honduran delegation was headed by President Juan Orlando Hernandez; Jorge Rivera Aviles, President of the Supreme Court; Jorge Ramon Hernandez Alcerro, General Coordinator; Rigoberto Chang Castillo, Minister for Justice, Human Rights, Governance and Decentralization; Mireya Aguero de Corrales, Minister of Foreign Relations and International Cooperation; Arturo Corrales Alvarez, Minister of Security; Samuel Reyes, Minister of Defense; and Oscar Fernando Chinchilla, Attorney General. The U.S. delegation included Lisa Kubiske, U.S. Ambassador to Honduras; Michael Kozak, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor; Luis Arreaga, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs; and Francisco Palmieri, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs. |
