Secretary of State John Kerry will chair the annual meeting of the President’s Interagency Task Force to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons (PITF) at the White House on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at 4:00 p.m. The annual cabinet-level meeting serves as an opportunity to coordinate government-wide efforts and discuss new initiatives in the struggle to end modern slavery. This will be the second meeting of the PITF during Secretary Kerry’s tenure as Chair and the fifth of the Obama Administration. Secretary of State Kerry will be joined by other senior Obama Administration officials who will underscore the theme of the meeting – the survivor at the center of federal anti-trafficking policy – and share progress on several related fronts, including incorporating survivors’ input and expertise; implementing a whole-of-government approach; and encouraging innovation on the way agencies respond to modern slavery. In addition, during the meeting Secretary Kerry will present the Presidential Award for Extraordinary Efforts to Combat Trafficking in Persons. This event will be live-streamed on www.whitehouse.gov/live.
