The U.S. Department of State will host the “Showcasing the Bioeconomy: The Future is Now” biotechnology conference on Monday, March 24 beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the George C. Marshall Center at the U.S. Department of State. Attendees should plan to enter through the 21st Street Entrance. The conference will feature presentations, TED-style talks, and Davos-style panel discussions on innovations in three areas: agricultural, health, and industrial biotechnology. The timeline for the conference is as follows: 8:00 - 9:00 a.m.: Registration and Coffee 9:00 – 9:10 a.m.: Opening Remarks by Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary William Craft 9:10 – 9:20 a.m.: White House Assistant Director for Biotechnology Mike Stebbins discusses the White House Bioeconomy Blueprint 9:20 – 9:30 a.m.: U.S. State Department Senior Advisor for Biotechnology Jack Bobo 9:30 – 11:00 a.m.: Agricultural Bioeconomy Discussion (Featuring Dr. Ellen Jorgensen, Antony Evans, Neal Carter, Alan Bjerga, Dr. Robert Fraley, Hadyn Parry, Dr. Catherine Woteki) 11:30 – 1:00 p.m.: Health Bioeconomy Discussion (Featuring Dr. Muhammad Zaman, Dr. Ronke Olabisi, Dr. Eddy Agbo, Naboth Van Broek, John Fini, Joseph Damond, Isaac Kinde) 2:00 – 3:25 p.m.: Industrial Bioeconomy Discussion (Featuring Patrick Nee, Reshma Shetty, Ivan Owen, Anne Nelson, Laurel Harmon, Jack Newman, Jonathan Burbaum) 3:25 – 3:35 p.m.: Closing Remarks by Assistant Secretary Kerri-Ann Jones The conference is open for press coverage, but please RSVP to Debra Lo at (202) 647-0812 or email LoD@State.gov.
