Dear Friends,

In August, representatives from nine of our partner organizations met in Johannesburg for a workshop on the topic of child protection advocacy. They used this time together to share their strategies and approaches to promoting child protection. What does your organization do to advocate child protection?

This week's edition of the newsflash contains tools and resources on the topic of child protection. We hope you enjoy, and find it useful in your work!

Sincerely,

The Firelight Team

(Resource) Case Management: Systems & Accountability - Social Work in Child Protection Projects

Case management provides a framework for professional management of child protection projects. It is important that individuals implementing a case management system are well supported and understand it fully. The purpose of this document is to transfer knowledge within Tdh, among partners and to donors.

This joint publication of University of Australia, University of Bath and Terre des hommes Foundation focuses on implementing a case management system during the initial start up phases of an emergency child protection project. The concepts are not exclusive to emergency projects and hold strong relevance to the inclusion of the system into existing development projects. The document provides useful guidelines and tools for improving social work.

This guide is for organizations who are involved in advocacy. You can use it to help you run an advocacy workshop, or as a general advocacy resource. The training material consists of a mixture of practical exercises and theory so that participants learn about advocacy in a way that is relevant to their specific needs and context, and they will come out of the workshop with a draft of an advocacy strategy.
