[wanabidii] Engaging men in HIV prevention and testing: Evaluation from Cote d'Ivoire

Friday, October 25, 2013

Harmful social norms about masculinity and femininity (such as expectations that men exert dominance over their partners and have multiple concurrent partnerships) are associated with high-risk sexual behavior. In Côte d'Ivoire, The RESPOND Project has provided technical assistance since 2008 to build the capacity of local and international organizations to use the Men As Partners® (MAP) approach to address these issues and engage men in HIV services. The MAP® approach stimulates dialogue around gender and encourages men and women to reject harmful norms and to promote those that protect health. The project uses MAP® trainings to build the capacity of PEPFAR partners to incorporate gender-transformative messages into ongoing prevention efforts and to build the capacity of facilities to engage men in HIV services, including HIV testing and the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

This report highlights the findings and recommendations from a midcourse process evaluation conducted in March 2013.

The report is available in English (http://www.respond-project.org/pages/files/6_pubs/research-reports/Study10-RCI-MAP-Evaluation-October2013-FINAL.pdf) (PDF, 5.5MB) and in French (http://www.respond-project.org/pages/files/6_pubs/research-reports/Study10-RCI-MAP-Evaluation-October2013-French-FINAL.pdf)(PDF, 5.8MB).
