[Mabadiliko] English Pronunciation

Tuesday, September 24, 2013
I want to apologize to everyone for taking such a long vacation from this regular column. We have not done this for about 2 weeks now and as a result, I've accumulated quite a collection of words that really confuse people. I'll present 10 today so as not to overwhelm us.

But before I get to that, I just wast to commend my favourite station, KTN of Kenya, for the efforts they have made in the last few weeks to make sure that their on-air reporters are now pronouncing words very well and correctly. I have no complaint completely about any of the on-air reporters right now. The only mispronunciations that I have gathered this week are really from the people being interviewed.
Hongera KTN.
I would urge the field reporters though to be a bit more vigilant. I noticed a few mistakes here and there from them but nothing to complain much about. The best teams so far have been the Yvonne Okwara/Wilson Mburu  and Linda Ogutu/Ben Kitili. Even Anne Kiguta and Betty Kyalo have been superb at individual levels.
Since KTN has now cleaned up its act, I may now move on to start monitoring Citizen TV and NTV.

Now let's embark upon some selected words that I've collected in the last 2 weeks.
