Valentines Day turned sour for TNA Othaya parliamentary aspirant Mary Wambui when President Mwai Kibaki endorsed her bitter rival for the seat. Kibaki's endorsement came at one of the function at which Mary Wambui was denied access. The candidate had attempted to accompany the president on three different function but was locked out on all occasions.

Mary Wambui denied entry as Kibaki opens CDF Othaya projects
There was drama in Othaya constituency after The National Alliance (TNA) candidate Mary Wambui was blocked from attending President Kibaki's public functions.

The drama started in the morning at a new police station in the constituency built with CDF money.

She arrived accompanied by another candidate Esau Kioni but were turned away.

After the President was driven into the compound, armed guards closed the gates to prevent her from going in.
A rival for the Othaya MP seat Gichuki Mugambi was also denied entry after Ms Wambui protestations.
The candidates were forced to follow proceedings from a distance. Mr Mugambi is eyeing the seat on a Saba Saba Asili ticket.

During the tour, the President was accompanied by his son Jimmy Kibaki who is supporting Mr Mugambi.

Central PC Japther Rugut and CDF chairman Karanja Mwangi addressed the crowd that turned up.

Residents who had turned up, some in TNA colours, to witness the official opening of the Munyange police station where she comes from watched the spectacle from across the road.

Ms Wambui later addressed supporters and urged them to reject Mr Mugambi in the March 4 elections.
At Othaya Boys Secondary School, the same situation obtained only this time Mr Mugambi and Thuo Mathenge, a Nyeri County governor aspirant were allowed to attend the function.
The President opened a new dormitory.
At the gate, Ms Wambui complained that despite her donation of 40 computers to the school, she had been locked out of the premises and declared she will carry the day on March 4.

"We know who has given such orders that I be locked out but Othaya people will not elect a project. On March 5, I will be the MP for Othaya," she said.
