On 13th December, 2012, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the
International Growth Centre (IGC) will launch a book "An Enterprise Map of
Tanzania". It is co authored by Prof John Sutton of London School of
Economics (UK) and Dr. Donath Olomi of IMED (Tanzania)
The book is based on primary and secondary research undertaken jointly by
IMED and IGC, with support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. It
documents the historical development of the key sectors and firms,
including how they started, the capabilities they currently have and how
they have evolved over time. Included of course are very interesting
highly diversfied groups , such as MeTL, SS Bakhressa, Sumaria, Motisun,
Mac Group, etc. The book is a must have for policy makers, consultants,
researchers and educators especially those active in entrepreneurship,
private sector and industrial development.
We are currently planning the launch event, including invitations. We are
inviting representatives of key ministries, research institutions,
government agencies, development partners, universities, the firms and
private sector associations that participated in or supportted the study,
etc.
However, if you feel very strongly that you want to attend the launch
event (participants will get to hear the key policy messages from Prof
Joh Sutton of LSE and leave with a free copy of the book), let me know by
Tuesday 13th November, so that you may be considered. We shall take a few
invitees based on their profiles (we give preference to policy makers and
influencers, as well as researchers and consultants) on first come first
served basis. The launch event will take place in a hotel in Dar city
centre. The exact venue will be announced to those who will be invited.
