Folks, This is very serious, let Kibaki and Raila explain to the People and the world why this is so and further convince the people that it is not part of their political theory to provoke insecurity and unleash terror as a means of sending threats, intimidation and fears ahead of election time. Irrespective of Party affilliation, police killer of the innocent is a serious crime and is unacceptable. The police inability to swiftly act and provide necessary peace and security is no excuse and this is a serious disability of inaction to advance criminal behaviors such of terror acts we saw in the past election of 2007/8 that must not be taken lightly. This behaviour is a tactical move to create chaos in a peaceful community and it is unacceptable. This lukewarm approach from Police to slow or evade apprehending the attacker or catching up with the terrorist killer is a sign that shows a well organized planned attack to ambush, create chaos, and distabilize the peaceful community and this behaviour is unacceptable. We demand for an extremely urgent response from the two Principal Coalition Leaders to provide satisfying reasonable explanation why they should not be held responsible for lack of providing good and secure leadership and to account for the Kisumu Killings. The protesters blocked the Kisumu - Kakamega highway for about six hours protesting the rising cases of insecurity in Kisumu. A boda boda operator, Kenneth Oduor, who was ferrying a passenger that got killed in the protest said his client was shot as they approached a police station. "He was bleeding profusely from his chest. We rushed him to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he died on arrival," Mr Oduor said. Mr Kwegah, a Kisumu Central Constituency aspirant, died from gunshot wounds he sustained after being shot by unknown assailants sparking protests. Mr Kwegah's wife was also shot during the 10am incident but doctors at the Aga Khan Hospital Intensive Care Unit say she was out of danger. Following the incident, protests rocked the town's Central Business District as residents led by Muhoroni MP, Ayiecho Olueny demonstrated over insecurity. According to an eye witness, the couple were shot near Mamba Hotel as they drove towards town. A boda boda operator said that he following Kwegah's car closely when two assailants approached the vehicle. Mr Kwegah was then ordered by one of the assailants to stop his car or be shot. "Stop the car or I will shoot! Today is your day and no one will help you," said the assailant. It's then that the gunman approached the driver's side as Mr Kwegah opened his window to check on the disturbance. "As he drove over a bump, the gunman shot him on the head and fired another shot on his jaw then shot Kwegah's wife on her arm, " said the eye witness. Meanwhile, ODM has called on the government to investigate the motive behind the murder of Mr Kwegah. ODM Secretary General Prof Anyang' Nyong'o said the killing comes in the wake of increasing cases of insecurity in Kisumu and it's environs, a situation that has become a major concern to the residents of the Lakeside town. "We condole with the family of the Late Mr Kwegah and pray for the quick recovery of his wife, who was injured during the shooting and rushed to Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu" said Prof Anyang' Nyong'o. Mr Kwegah also served as ODM's Kisumu Town West sub-branch chairman.
Killings escalate in post-election KenyaChaos … a man is beaten by a policeman in Nairobi after an election protest. Photo: Reuters/Antony Njuguna Bernard Rwoti in Kisumu, Kenya January 1, 2008 Page 1 of 2 ANALYSIS AT LEAST 64 people were killed overnight in post-election violence in western Kenya as angry opposition supporters clashed with police and rival tribal groups. In Kisumu, Kenya's third city and a bastion of the defeated presidential challenger, Raila Odinga, a mortuary attendant said police brought in 46 bodies. "These bodies were brought here overnight by police officers from various suburbs," the attendant told Agence France-Presse. "Three are women and there are two infants." Authorities also imposed a daytime curfew in Kisumu yesterday with police ordered to shoot any violators, a senior police official said. The city's morgue was surrounded by wailing relatives as police sent reinforcements to block slum dwellers from reaching the city centre. "I heard gunshots and we scampered off to safety and I did not know where my son went. I have spotted my son's body with a gunshot wound in the stomach," said an elderly woman, Mary Otieno. Reporters were also shown seven other bodies in the city's main hospital waiting to be transferred to the morgue. The police chief of Nyanza province, Grace Kaindi, did not comment on the 46 bodies but admitted that police had opened fire on looters during the night. "These are a group of young men who were causing mayhem at night, they refused to disperse, forcing police to use force on the looters," she said. The latest deaths brought to 84 the number of people confirmed to have died since Thursday's general elections. The President, Mwai Kibaki, was declared the winner on Sunday after a disputed tallying process, but Mr Odinga rejected the results, saying the Government had rigged them. In the town of Nakuru, police said seven were killed after clashes also broke out between rival political supporters. Mr Kibaki's Kikuyu tribe is the country's largest but many across Kenya had rallied behind Mr Odinga's Luo tribe in the election to bring an end to "Kikuyu rule", a trend observers had warned could trigger violence. Further clashes between rival supporters in a village near Kapsabet also left four dead, police said. In Kisumu, Nairobi and several other cities in Kenya, life came to a standstill where fighting was not taking place. After almost a week of national holidays imposed by the Government around December 27 for the vote, some residents from impoverished neighbourhoods were running out of basic goods and started looting shops. --- On Mon, 10/29/12, Lee Makwiny <amosogal@gmail.com> wrote: From: Lee Makwiny <amosogal@gmail.com> Subject: [changemombasa2012] Kisumu Killings To: "progressive-kenyans" <progressive-kenyans@googlegroups.com>, "kol" <kenyaonline@yahoogroups.com>, "Kenya Canada" <kenya-can@yahoogroups.com>, changemombasa2012@yahoogroups.com Date: Monday, October 29, 2012, 8:40 AM After killing Shem Onyango Kwega, the police are now shooting innocent demostrators. I am still unable to understand how a thug #ChinaSquad can kill someone at Mamba, followed by bodaboda upto Nyamasaria, yet the police are unable to provide help. |
