Serious Allegation: Koch Brothers Bought Ryan's Nomination for $100 Million.

by Shawn RussellFollow

The National Memo has published a damning allegation against Ryan on its website. The source is none other than Republican insider, Roger Stone. Stone alleges that the Koch brothers bought Ryan's VP nomination in exchange for a promised gift of $100 million to the Romney/Ryan ticket.
Veteran Republican political consultant, unrepentant dirty trickster, and recently reborn libertarian Roger Stone yesterday published a startling accusation against Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney on his personal website, The Stone Zone. According to Stone, the billionaire Koch brothers purchased the Republican vice presidential nomination for Ryan from Romney in late July by promising to fork over an additional $100 million toward "independent expenditure" campaigning for the GOP ticket.
If this is true, it would be a grave violation of federal election laws.
Any such transaction would represent a serious violation of federal election laws and perhaps other statutes, aside from the ethical and character implications for all concerned. Although Stone is not the most reputable figure, to put it mildly, he has been a Republican insider, with access to the party's top figures, over four decades. His credentials date back to Nixon's Committee to Reelect The President and continue through the Reagan White House, the hard-fought Bush campaigns, and the Florida fiasco in 2000, when he masterminded the "Brooks Brothers riot" that shut down the Bush-Gore recount in Miami-Dade. Peruse his site and you'll see his greatest hits and the attention he has drawn from major publications.
Stone gives us more details as to how Koch allegedly bought Ryan's VP selection:
David Koch played a key role in Ryan's selection and that Koch's wife Julia had been quietly lobbying for Ryan. The selection was cemented at the July 22nd fundraiser Koch held for Romney at the former's sumptuous Hamptons estate. Koch pledged $100 million more to C-4 and Super PAC efforts for Romney [in exchange] for Ryan's selection.
What is C-4?
When he mentions "C-4," of course, Stone is referring to the tax-exempt non-profit groups recognized by the IRS under section 501-C-4 of federal tax law – such as Americans For Prosperity, a group largely backed by the Koch brothers that has so far spent nearly $20 million on this year's campaign. The C-4 groups, including another known as Crossroads GPS run by Karl Rove, need not disclose their rich donors, while Super PACs do. This year, the right-wing C-4s are outspending all the SuperPACS combined, as Pro Publica reported recently.
There needs to be a greater investigation by journalists, the media and the government to see if these allegations are true.
A Few Clarifications
(1). I am not saying that I believe Stone and his allegation. All I am asking for is an investigation to find out if these allegations are true. I made no judgment call in the body of this diary.
(2). I changed the title of the diary to reflect that this is merely an allegation, so that people will not take it to be the truth. We do not know at this point if it is true.
(3). There is a limit to the number of characters and words that can be compressed in the title. That is why the original title could not fit everything I wanted to convey within its space.

Republican Islamophobia clearly increasing hate crime incidents against Muslims.

The 9th Commandment
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour
Our republican/conservative neighbors, many claiming to be such pious Christian, have been failing miserably with regards to the 9th Commandment.
Republican "Islamophobia" is a 24/7non-stop outpouring of false witness against Muslims and pretty much anybody who isn't white (with short hair, pink Izod shirt, khakis, and penny loafers), and it is CLEARLY resulting in an increase of assaultive hate crimes against them.
Shootings, desecration of Mosque sites, Mosques burnt down, a firebombing of a home, an 'acid bomb" (?!) attack against a school - violence against Muslims does seem to be on the rise and I feel it's quite directly due to the ongoing 'Islamophobia': hate speech of republicans. From elected representatives, like that ,a href="http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/08/13/679561/gop-rep-joe-walsh-muslims-are-trying-to-kill-americans-every-week/">Scumbag Joe Walsh to Michael 'the Savage' Wiener. It is an unfettered outpouring of hate delivered with fingers crossed some nutjob will go hurt or kill some target of their derision.

WYFP: Remembering the Armenian Genocide (photos)

Good evening, Kossacks. Tonight I am going to tackle a tough subject--inhumanity and its consequences.
WYFP is our community's Saturday evening gathering to talk about our problems, empathize with one another, and share advice, pootie pictures, favorite adult beverages, and anything else that we think might help. Everyone and all sorts of troubles are welcome. May we find peace and healing here. Won't you please share the joy of WYFP by recommending?
Please follow me below the fold.

As most of you know, I spent two and a half weeks in Armenia earlier this summer working on the animal bones from the Early Bronze Age site of Shengavit in Yerevan, Armenia. I did not have a lot of time for sightseeing, but we did visit the Armenian genocide memorial and museum one Sunday afternoon.
Here is some basic historical background from Wikipedia:
The Armenian Genocide...was the systematic extermination of the Armenian population from its historic homeland in Asia Minor by the Ottoman government. It took place during and after World War I and was implemented in two phases: the wholesale killing of the able-bodied male population through massacre and forced labor, and the deportation on death marches to the Syrian Desert of women, children, the elderly and infirm. The total number of lives destroyed as a result has been estimated at between 1 and 1.5 million.
Not only was this a tragedy for the Armenian people, it also served as a model for other later genocides in the 20th century, in particular for the Holocaust of Shoah. Here are some images from the memorial and the museum:
Here is two views of the memorial:
And here is the eternal flame:
This is part of a grove of trees that were planted by other governments in memory of the Armenians who were lost. These are cedar trees that were planted by the government of Lebanon:
This is the remains of a cross that comes from a church that was destroyed during the genocide:
And here is the statue that sits at the very end of the museum:
The 20th century was one of the most brutal in human history--from the Armenian Genocide to the Shoah to the genocide in Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia. We have a moral obligation to make sure that tragedies like these never happen again. Peace.
