On January 19, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Biswal welcomed an Uzbek Government delegation led by Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov to Washington for the sixth U.S.-Uzbekistan Annual Bilateral Consultations. As part of the consultations, the delegation met with Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Heather Higginbottom and other senior U.S. officials to discuss political developments, regional stability and security, human rights and labor, education and cultural exchanges, and economic development and trade, and other issues of mutual interest. The Annual Bilateral Consultations, which were established in 2009, are a structured policy dialogue designed to build mutual trust and advance our common agenda and opportunities for cooperation across the full range of bilateral and regional issues. The United States looks forward to broadening and deepening its relationship with Uzbekistan on the basis of these candid and constructive conversations. |
