Press Releases: Acting Special Envoy to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Special Advisor for Religious Minorities in the Near East and South/Central Asia to Attend Conference in Morocco on Protection of Religious Minorities in Muslim Societies 01/21/2016 04:55 PM EST Acting Special Envoy to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Special Advisor for Religious Minorities in the Near East and South/Central Asia to Attend Conference in Morocco on Protection of Religious Minorities in Muslim Societies Media Note Office of the Spokesperson Washington, DC January 21, 2016 Acting Special Envoy to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Arsalan Suleman and Special Advisor for Religious Minorities in the Near East and South/Central Asia Knox Thames will travel to Morocco January 25-28, 2016 to participate in “The Rights of Religious Minorities in Predominantly Muslim Lands: Legal Framework and a Call to Action” conference. The conference will explore the historical context, religious principles, and legal frameworks affecting religious minorities in predominantly Muslim societies, as well as discuss the protection of the rights of religious minorities and means of strengthening bridges of understanding among various religious communities. During their visit, Acting Special Envoy Suleman will meet with Moroccan government officials, religious leaders, representatives of OIC member countries, officials from the OIC’s affiliated Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), and university students. Special Advisor Thames will also meet with Moroccan government officials, religious and interfaith leaders, and members of the Jewish community.
