Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs Michele Thoren Bond will visit the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) from December 10-11, 2015, for a series of meetings with foreign government authorities. She will discuss the status of exit permits for children adopted by U.S. citizens and will encourage DRC officials to immediately lift the suspension of exit permits. Assistant Secretary Bond also will reach out to U.S. citizen families currently resident in the DRC who have adopted Congolese children and are awaiting permission to exit with their new family members.
