Deputy Secretary Blinken Travels to the Philippines, Jordan, and Turkey

Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken will travel next week to the Philippines, Jordan, and Turkey, November 15–21, to discuss key political, economic, and security issues with government officials and non-governmental experts.

November 15–17, Deputy Secretary Blinken will represent the State Department at the 27th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting in Manila. At APEC, the Deputy Secretary will discuss with other member economies actions to expand trade and investment, promote shared prosperity and inclusive growth, address challenges to our health systems, and provide cleaner and more resilient communities for our citizens. While in Manila, the Deputy Secretary will also meet with officials of the Philippines and other regional partners to discuss a range of economic and security issues.

The Deputy Secretary will travel to Amman November 18–19 to meet with government officials to discuss key bilateral and regional issues, including our partnership on the fight against ISIL and the urgent refugee crisis in the region. The Deputy Secretary will visit a community center serving Jordan-based refugees to reinforce the United States’ commitment to supporting Syrian refugee communities displaced by conflict. He will also visit a local business incubator to experience Jordan’s innovation culture and how it continues to support education and sustain livelihoods.

On November 19, the Deputy Secretary will travel to Adana, Turkey, where he will continue to engage with refugees,  local stakeholders and government officials on our response to the regional refugee crisis.

Deputy Secretary Blinken’s final stop will be in Istanbul on November 20–21, where he will deliver remarks on regional and global energy trends at the Atlantic Council Energy and Economic Summit. The Deputy Secretary will meet with Turkish officials and participate in events with civil society, highlighting our cooperation on refugee education and entrepreneurship.
