Following a successful pilot program for students from the Western Hemisphere at two U.S. host institutions in July 2015, the U.S. Department of State’s EducationUSA Academy has expanded to include worldwide participation, as well as eight new U.S. host colleges and universities for summer 2016. The Academy is a short-term academic program that provides international youth with the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to submit strong applications for admission to colleges and universities in the United States. International students from diverse backgrounds help internationalize U.S. campuses and strengthen ties between the United States and other nations that are needed to solve global challenges. The three-to-four-week program provides intensive English language courses, college preparatory content, tours of diverse U.S. college and university campuses, and cross-cultural activities to self-funded 15- to 17-year old students who are non-native English speakers and reside in other countries. The Academy will now include the following U.S. campuses: Diablo Valley College, Lewis and Clark College, Northwestern University, Syracuse University, Temple University, University of Arkansas, University of Colorado Boulder, University of Hawaii at Manoa, University of North Georgia, and Washington University in St. Louis. The EducationUSA Academy is a component of the State Department’s EducationUSA advising program, which includes a network of more than 400 advising centers in 171 countries around the world that provide prospective international students with accurate, current, and comprehensive information about U.S. higher education.
