The United States remains deeply concerned about the fragile political and security situation in Burkina Faso. We call on all sides to seek common ground and take responsibility for protecting the human rights of all Burkinabe citizens, including those believed to have been involved in the recent effort to overthrow the transitional government. We urge the Burkinabe armed forces to continue protecting civilians and exercising restraint as they respond to ongoing events. It is of utmost importance that the transitional government continues its efforts to hold transparent, free, and credible national elections as soon as possible. |
