On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I would like to send our best wishes to the Indonesian people on the 70th anniversary of your independence this August 17. I know from my own visit that Indonesia’s thriving democracy, religious tolerance, diversity, and global leadership are fundamental to your country’s success and serve an example for the Asia Pacific region and the world. Through our Comprehensive Partnership the United States and Indonesia have made a long-term commitment to strengthen our bilateral partnership and address regional and global challenges, reflecting the importance the United States places on our relationship with Indonesia as a leader in Asia, and the world. I look forward to building even closer ties between our governments when President Jokowi visits the United States later this year. We wish all Indonesians around the world a joyous celebration and peace and prosperity over the coming year. |
