On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I extend my congratulations and best wishes to the people of the Independent State of Samoa as you celebrate the 53nd anniversary of your nation’s independence. Our mutually held values and shared interests form the basis for our enduring relationship. We cooperate to safeguard our oceans and environment, strengthen the rule of law and democratic institutions, address the effects of climate change, and promote sustainable development in the Pacific. The United States looks forward to continuing our excellent relations with Samoa. May all Samoans everywhere enjoy a happy Independence Day celebration as well as a peaceful and successful 2015. |
