In the run up to the 2015 General Election, use our range of online teaching resources to help explain the election process and its relevance to your students. Plus, don’t forget to remind your pupils age 18+ that the deadline for registering to vote is Monday 20 April! | | General Election teaching resources Take a look at Parliament’s full selection of General Election themed teaching resources and lesson plans, including the Election Toolkit which can be used to run a mock election in the classroom, the General Election in nearly 60 seconds video which provides a brief introduction to how the General Election works, as well as the Elections and Voting whiteboard. Use the resources in your classroom during the run up to the UK General Election on 7 May. Autumn term school visits to Parliament Be amongst the first to visit Parliament’s brand new Education Centre by booking your autumn term school visit on our telephone bookings day - Thursday 30 April. Please call 020 7219 4496 on the day, lines will open at 8.30am. We can only take requests via telephone, not e-mail, and make sure you know what to expect by reading our information for bookings day. Teachers looking to visit with key stage 5 students (age 16-19) should also take advantage of our Discover Parliament visits this autumn. Online applications for Discover Parliament visits are now open. Teacher Seminar day – 11 May Bookings are now open for our General Seminar day on Monday 11 May, 9.30 – 3.30. This day is designed for teachers of Citizenship, PSHE, SMSC, History and other related subjects. Find out more on the website or email the Education Outreach team to request a booking form. 2015 Flag Project and exhibition As part of Parliament's 2015 anniversary programme to mark 750 years since the Montfort parliament, the 2015 Flag Project introduces the story of Simon de Montfort’s parliament to key stage 2 students (age 7-11). Schools are invited to design a flag to represent their local area or community and add it to a digital exhibition to build a shared picture of the UK for 2015 created by young people. Free video and PDF flag-making toolkits to support teachers in the classroom are available. | | From our partners... The resource has been recently enhanced with more engaging activities and audio visual content which helps to better facilitate the sessions and bring them to life for participants. Take a look at the enhanced Rock Enrol!® resource History of Parliament schools competitions The History of Parliament key stage 3 (age 11-14) and A level (age 16-19) competition dates have been announced. For full details of the competitions, competition rules, and closing dates see the History of Parliament’s website.
