On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Mauritius as you celebrate the 47th anniversary of independence on March 12. Mauritius is an example to other nations in the region your most recent election demonstrates your legacy of peaceful democratic transitions, good governance, and the power of the vote which Mauritian citizens have exercised time and time again. The United States and Mauritius work together to advance regional security, enhance trade and investment, and defend human rights. On this day of celebration, I wish the people of Mauritius continued peace and prosperity. |
