Counselor to the Department Thomas A. Shannon will travel to Ghana, Mali and Senegal from February 21-27. In Ghana, Counselor Shannon will meet with senior government officials to discuss regional and security cooperation and strengthening our bilateral economic engagement. During this visit, he will also meet with young African leaders and members of the American business community, and will participate in the launch of the West African Network for Peacebuilding’s (WANEP) program to support successful elections across the region. Counselor Shannon will continue to Mali where he will have meetings with senior government officials to discuss the peace process and national reconciliation. He will also meet with key international partners in support of the negotiations in Algiers. Counselor Shannon will then travel to Senegal to discuss regional security and economic development issues with senior government officials. Counselor Shannon will also meet with members of the American business and international donor communities to discuss opportunities and challenges for economic growth in Senegal and West Africa and engage with civil society and youth leaders working to promote entrepreneurship and youth employment. |
