From January 15-16, leaders from both French and American higher education institutions and associations will convene in Washington, D.C., to identify ways to promote increased student mobility and study abroad between the United States and France in support of the Transatlantic Friendship and Mobility Initiative. Student mobility and international education contribute to the strong alliance between the United States and France and are essential to expanding global knowledge and economic growth. Announced by both the United States and France in May 2014, the initiative aims to double the number of U.S. students going to France and the number of French students coming to the United States by 2025.

Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Evan Ryan will open the symposium with His Excellency Gerard Araud, Ambassador of France to the United States, on January 15th.

The historic friendship between the United States and France is rooted in our shared values of freedom, democracy, human rights, environmental protection, responsible development, and countering violent extremism. By capitalizing on the talent, innovation, and research capacity of France and the United States through the Friendship initiative, we reaffirm our common commitment to increased economic growth, employment, and global competitiveness.
