On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate all Bissau-Guineans on the 41th anniversary of your independence on September 24. Guinea-Bissau has made tremendous progress over the last year. You went to the polls in large numbers to elect a new president and return Guinea-Bissau to democratic rule. The United States stands with the government and people of Guinea-Bissau as you work together to solidify your democratic progress, promote rule of law, and encourage greater economic growth and prosperity. As you celebrate this special day, I wish all the people of Guinea-Bissau prosperity and happiness. |
