Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights Sarah Sewall to Travel to Turkey

Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights Sarah Sewall will travel to Turkey from April 6 to April 10, 2014.

While in Turkey, Under Secretary Sewall will discuss bilateral and regional issues, including the response to the crisis in Syria, freedom of expression, justice sector issues, and counterterrorism cooperation with government officials, civil society leaders, and UN organizations.

Under Secretary Sewall will also meet with local government officials and other local stakeholders, including youth leaders and women’s groups affected by the ongoing conflict in Syria. She will see firsthand the Syrian refugee response in Turkey, and talk to Syrians who have fled their homes and sought refuge in Turkey as a result of the crisis.
