Press Releases: Under Secretary Rose Gottemoeller Travels to Japan and China 04/10/2014 08:11 AM EDT Under Secretary Rose Gottemoeller Travels to Japan and China Media Note Office of the Spokesperson Washington, DC April 10, 2014 Rose Gottemoeller, Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, will travel to Japan and China from April 10- 15, 2014. From April 10-11, Under Secretary Gottemoeller will meet with Japanese counterparts from the Cabinet Secretariat and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo, Japan. Gottemoeller will discuss regional security issues, arms control and nonproliferation policy, and missile defense cooperation. On April 12, Under Secretary Gottemoeller will attend the Nonproliferation and Disarmament Initiative (NPDI) Ministerial meeting in Hiroshima, Japan. She will also lead the U.S. delegation to the Japan-U.S. Commission on Disarmament and Nonproliferation, a bilateral dialogue covering weapons of mass destruction, nuclear energy, and conventional arms issues. While in Hiroshima, the Under Secretary will also speak with students at Hiroshima University. From April 14-15, Under Secretary Gottemoeller will take part in the 5th P5 Conference in Beijing, China. This Conference is the latest in a series of meetings between the United States, China, France, the Russian Federation, and the United Kingdom aimed at furthering the disarmament goals laid out in the 2010 Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty Review Conference Action Plan. Gottemoeller will also discuss regional and international security issues with her Chinese counterparts in Beijing. On April 15, Under Secretary Gottemoeller and her counterparts will participate in the P5 Conference Public event titled, “Comprehensive Enhancement of the NPT.” The event will be hosted by the Chinese Arms Control and Disarmament Agency.
