[wanabidii] English - Congratulations KTN Staff

Today is the second day in a row that the KTN staff has impressed me. I think my message is getting through. They went through KTN Prime Full Bulletin News today again without a single faux pas in pronunciation.

I'm very proud of Wilson Mburu, Yvonne Okwara, Betty Kyalo, Bonnie Tunya, Catherine Omwandho, and the whole KTN team. They did not massacre a single English word. Heko na hongera nyote wanaKTN mliotusemea taarifa leo.

But I had a few things to note from some interviewees.

Kimaru, the Traffic Commandant, said:

" You can not hide yourselves when people have lost their lives"

This is wrong grammar.

The correct way to say this is:

"You can not go into hiding when people have lost their lives"

He also said:  "Where are you?" ---- W-e-ya  -a-r   -y-u  (the r should be silent)

The correct way is:  'W-e-ya  -a-a-  y-u

Then a certain Paul, an Engineer with Road a construction company, said:

DETERMINES. 

He said D-I-T-A-M-A-I-N-S. This is wrong

The correct way is: D-I-T-A-M-I-N-S

All in all, I'm very impressed with the KTN team today. I think the letter I sent to their boss is working. They are practising their pronunciation before going on air.

Let's see how the next team does; akina Kiguta, Linda Ogutu na kadhalika.
