EAST AFRICANS FOR THE SOUTHERN ROUTE
In 2011 we did a series called East Africans for the Southern route. We are rerunning some of those posts now.
The Southern route is the answer. It will help 5x as many people and go through a heavily agricultural area. Many of the roads are already there - they just need upgrading and connecting. Why destroy the crown jewel of Tanzania when there is an alternative?

"As a Safari guide and Tanzanian citizen, I believe not many of Tanzanians know about what is going on here. Tourism has changed the millions of Tanzanians living being it direct or indirect. However, the poor methods of delivering the education about wild life and the importances hamper the situation. We few can be the voice of majority whom does not know wherebout. I have been following the news and our government concern towards this highway issue and realised that no one from our governing body has a clear understanding of the serengeti and its ecosystem. No research no right to speak! Our government did not do any research and I do not know where did this idea come from. It is shame! I have experienced many of such kind of crazy order from politician under the name of ignorance. I have at least met some people to discuss about this and all seem astonished with the decisions.
We should not involve the politicians who do not know anything about conservation. Their field is to stay in office and stand over arena to preach. It is day dream to promise the soda plant over beauty lake if natron and highway over serengeti. Even wildebeests and flamingoes are wondering if at all we are mankind or manbeests??
This has been awakening of Tanzanians even those did not know why we need serengeti existance. Serengeti shall never be the land to cultivate, serengeti shall never be the land for highway, serengeti shall never die! We will stand for you seregeti because what you give to this country make Tanzanis to exist.
No doubt that Southern Route should be maintained and kept as a [substitute] against northern plan. I support the Southern Route and we should all agree. Being the common and our traditional, I believe that it is also cheaper to learn what to e improved and how to keep it friendly with the ecosystem since we have been using it."
