action alert! An 11-year-old girl in Chile is 14 weeks pregnant with her rapist's baby, but her government refuses to allow her an abortion.
Dear Ludovick, An 11-year-old girl in Chile is 14 weeks pregnant with the baby of her mother's boyfriend, who sexually assaulted her for two years. Her pregnancy is endangering her health and the fetus is unlikely to survive, but the Chilean government refuses to allow her to get an abortion. Abortion used to be legal under certain medical circumstances in Chile. In 1973, though, it was outlawed altogether -- even in cases of rape, incest, and when the mother's health is in danger. The fact that the government of Chile is forcing a fifth-grader to carry her rapist's baby to term, a decision that will likely be harmful to her, is horrifying. If Chile's leaders really cared about the lives of their people, they wouldn't be leaving a child to suffer like this.
