This is to inform you that there are fake Agencies/Companies sending
mails/sms to individuals informing them about job opportunities. The
individuals behind such fraudulent operations at times use foreign
identity/accents to influence candidates.
In case you or any of your acquaintances have received any such mail
or sms, you are advised to bring it to immediate notice of the
Management of the particular Company which has been named as the
ultimate employer in the fraud job offer being circulated.
Indicators to check if an email/sms from an employer/recruiter is a
fraud/scam:
If you have not heard the name of the company before, search on Google
to see if the company has a genuine website.
Even if it has a website, check if other people have reported that the
employer has been involved in job scams previously.
If the mail offers a job without a face to face interview
If the mail asks for your personal, non-work related information such
as credit card numbers or bank information over phone or email
If the Sender asks for money-transfers, or payment for any employment.
A mobile number is usually given with details of Mobile money transfer
eg. MPESA, Tigo Pesa.
If the mailer has used free email IDs to contact you or as 'reply to'
email IDs. For example, if you get a job offer from ABCPetroleum
Company, and their email ID is abcpetroleum@gmail.com or
abcpetroleum@yahoo.com then it is most probably a fake company. Real
companies use their own domain name on their email, and do not use
free email providers.
If the contact telephone numbers are mobile phone numbers only, and no
landline numbers are given.
Before you respond to such emails or sms, we strongly recommend you do
a discreet enquiry and verify the legitimacy of the employer.
Remember: Under no circumstance should you pay any employer in
exchange for providing any employment!
