Subject: Monday is World Pneumonia Day

Dear Colleagues,

On Monday 12 November, the GAVI Alliance Secretariat will be joining
our many partners to mark World Pneumonia Day – a global initiative to
raise awareness about the scourge of pneumonia.

Every year, more than a million children under five die of pneumonia
and almost all are in the developing countries we serve.

Vaccines funded by GAVI are playing a crucial role in pneumonia prevention.

Thanks to our work, the generosity of our donors and the extraordinary
efforts of all our alliance partners, an estimated 13 million children
will have received pneumococcal vaccine by the end of 2012.

To mark the day and raise awareness, we have created a dedicated page
on our website http://www.gavialliance.org/pneumonia-2012/ that
showcases GAVI success stories like the recent introduction of
pneumococcal vaccines in Pakistan, Madagascar, Congo and the recent
introduction of pentavalent vaccines in DPRK, Myanmar and Timor Leste.

We will also be placing blogs and articles by our CEO Dr Seth Berkley
and issuing this press release:
http://www.gavialliance.org/library/news/press-releases/2012/vaccines-to-prevent-pneumonia-deaths-reaching-poor-countries-in-record-time/

Please tweet, post and share our stories with your networks.

Please also follow GAVI on social media and help us reach new
audiences with our message of hope.

to reduce the number of preventable child deaths worldwide #WPD2012
#vaccineswork

· @GAVIAlliance introduced PCV against leading cause of
pneumonia in 21 countries. GAVI on track to reach more than 50 by 2015
#WDP2012

· Children in the world's poorest countries already or will
soon have access to best tools we have available to prevent pneumonia
@GAVIAlliance

For those living in Geneva, you might have noticed that GAVI's flags
are flying on the Mont Blanc bridge to mark the occasion.

For the sake of millions of children in developing countries, please
help make this 4th World Pneumonia Day count.

Thanks and best wishes
