The State Department, using protocols developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is facilitating the medical evacuation of a U.S. lawful permanent resident from Sierra Leone to the United States for treatment for Ebola virus. The evacuation is at the request of his wife, a U.S. citizen and resident of Maryland, who has agreed to reimburse the US Government for any expense. The Nebraska Medical Center has confirmed that it is prepared to receive the patient on Saturday afternoon. Just as we have done in previous cases, every precaution is being taken to ensure the evacuation is completed safely and securely, that critical care is provided en route, and that strict isolation is maintained. |
