[wanabidii] Pasaka

[wanabidii] Pasaka
PASAKA NJEMA
One of the greatest dangers that faces the Christian in his pursuit of a holy life is that of ending up being religious and not spiritual. Religiosity is often mistaken by the undiscerning believer for spirituality. But there is a world of difference between the two. The former is human, the latter is divine. The law could make people religious, but not spiritual. Religiosity is taken up with the external, visible things. Spirituality is primarily a matter of the heart.

God's word warns us that there will be many in the last days who have a form of godliness without its power - in other words, they will be religious, but not spiritual (2 Tim. 3:5). They will go religiously to meetings, pray and read the Bible daily and even attend all-night fasting and prayer meetings, tithe their income, etc. But they will still seek honour from men, live for themselves, love money and be interested in gossiping, etc. Such people are religious, not spiritual. They have a form of godliness without the power. Here are some examples.

If you are more interested in going to meetings than in crucifying the flesh (Gal. 5:24), you are religious, not spiritual.
If you are more interested in reading your Bible every morning than in controlling your tongue the whole day, you are religious, not spiritual.
If you are more interested in fasting and prayer than in being free from the love of money, you are religious, not spiritual.
If you are more interested in evangelism than in personal sanctification, you are religious, not spiritual.

All the activities of religious people mentioned in the above examples are good. But it is a question of priorities. It is right priorities that makes a man spiritual.

Religious people are interested in the written word alone (`the letter') and end up having the righteousness of the law. Spiritual people however are interested in the Word being manifested in flesh and blood, and thus end up having the righteousness of God, the divine nature.

Religious people justify their actions by quoting the words or actions of some man of God. Spiritual people however, never seek to justify themselves before men.

Religious people are more interested in men's opinions than in God's opinion. Spiritual people care only about God's opinion. Religious people can meditate for years on the words of praise that some elder brother spoke concerning them. Spiritual people, on the other hand, like Jesus, refuse to receive testimony from men (Jn. 5:34). They know that other men do not know the corruption that they see within themselves, and so they realise that the praise of men is worth less than nothing.

Religious people are legalistic and are under the law. They think in terms of the minimum necessary in order to please God. This is why they calculate exactly how much 10% of their income comes to and then offer it reluctantly to God. In the Old Testament, this attitude finally ended up in the Israelites offering blind sheep and sick bulls as sacrifices to the Lord (Mal. 1:8). It is possible to have an identical attitude to the New Testament commandments. A sister can think in terms of the minimum necessary in order to keep the letter of the word that commands her to be subject to her husband; Men and women can think in terms of the minimum necessary in order to be 'spiritual' without altogether giving up everything. "What is the minimum that I have to give up of this world?" is a question that is always in the minds of such people. Such can never be spiritual. They can only be religious.

[wanabidii] Supreme Court reactions - Kisumu

Good People,

What is happening in Kisumu is not the Democracy people voted for. It must be noted that, Security and protection of the people comes first before anything else.

Peaceful demonstration to express reaction, opinion and feelings is not a crime.

Live bullet on innocent people in Nyanza is wrong. This is very much condemned as it is unacceptable !!! People should be left to express their feelings as long as they are peaceful. The Police is stationed to bring peace and protect people not to brutalize and kill them with trigger happy. The succession of release of live
bullets with smoking gun fires is unbelievable.

Human beings should not be killed like hunted wild animals. The Police law here was applied discriminatory. This is wrong and I am very saddened to watch what is going on in Kisumu Kenya !!

This behaviour shows very clearly how there was a plan to marshal the police to Kisumu with an intention to provoke and destroy them and the world must see this for what it is because we are not going to take such behavioural attack lightly; as
it does not matter from whose order that came from.

[wanabidii] RWAKATALE: Kesi au Mbinu za Kuzima Mjadala wa Elimu na Udini?

[wanabidii] RWAKATALE: Kesi au Mbinu za Kuzima Mjadala wa Elimu na Udini?

Bandugu,

Tafakari

Ireneus

[wanabidii] The simplicity of China-Africa relations

The simplicity of China-Africa relations

Mobhare Matinyi, Washington DC. The Citizen, Tanzania. Thursday, 28 March 2013 20:30.

Just ten days after taking office as the leader of the People's Republic of China, President Xi Jinping landed in Tanzania on Sunday to begin his three-nation historic tour of Africa that included South Africa and the Republic of the Congo. He had just concluded his first foreign tour in Russia.

President Xi's visit to Russia was explicable, but his decision to come to Africa before anywhere else stunned and even angered Western capitals and their biased press which always sees the worst side of Africa. He didn't care!

Perhaps what was more surprising was Xi's decision to start his visit in Tanzania, arguably the real friend of China in Africa for five decades now. Fine, a third of Sino-Africa trade is with South Africa, and Congo-Brazzaville supplies crude oil, but why Tanzania?

To quickly recap, Tanzania started relations with China immediately after the independences of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, and continued after the unification in 1964. Tanzania and China signed the Treaty of Friendship in February 1965 when President Julius Nyerere visited the country in the first of his five visits although economic, technical and military relations had already started in 1964.

Several agreements and visits by civilian and military leaders of the two countries followed including three Tanzanian presidents who came after Nyerere, and three Chinese premiers starting with Zhou Enlai in 1965, Zhao Ziyang in 1983, and Li Peng in 1997.

When the then Chinese president, Hu Jintao, visited Tanzania in February 2009, the leader of the world's most populous nation and the emerging superpower noted admirably in his speech that the China-Tanzania relationship had become "a model for both China-Africa and South-South cooperation."

The stories of China and Tanzania go centuries beyond modern history, a reason why Kilwa archaeological excavations recovered many Chinese coins dating to the Song Dynasty which ruled China between 960 and 1279. Yes! That far back!

The Chinese will never forget how Tanzania led other African nations in supporting Beijing's efforts to regain its seat at the United Nations, kicking out the Taiwan-based Republic of China.

Between the two friendly countries there is a lot to justify their closiness, like the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (Tazara), and much more in foreign policy and ideological matters to warrant Xi's decision to pay such an honourable visit to the United Republic of Tanzania. Putting it short and simple, Tanzania and China are friends in need and indeed.

But again, why did he choose to visit Africa after Russia, snubbing the big powers? President Xi wanted to send the message that China is serious about its relations with Africa. Why Africa? Well, historical ties are there, but in addition to that China needs Africa and Africa needs China, and between them there is neither hypocrisy nor hidden agenda.

I like the way Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete puts it every time the Western press bothers him. In one incidence in December 2011 he said: "Africa needs markets for its products; Africa needs technology and infrastructure for its development. China is ready to provide all that. What is wrong with that?"

Speaking in Washington DC in 2009 at the United States-Africa Business Summit, President Kikwete told Americans: "Why complain about China? Just come to Africa and invest the way the Chinese are doing."

There is nothing complicated between China and Africa; it is give and take. Africans are aware of the situation that exists currently in which China seems to benefit more, but these things can be settled out with time and without the help of the West. Some of these challenges are counterfeit products, the sudden growth of the Chinese diaspora in African cities, and the poor quality of Chinese workmanship.

But I don't agree with those who lament that China buys raw materials from Africa but brings in finished goods. Come on! Who prevented Africans from doing the opposite?

As we speak today, annual China-Africa trade stands at $200 billion, and if the trend continues Africa will soon surpass the sluggish economies of the US and the European Union. Shockingly, US-Africa trade stands slightly below $100 billion, while the EU is taking forever to conclude an economic partnership agreement with Africa.

If that is the case then, why should President Xi bother about the "powerful" West? Is that difficult to figure out? Again, China has what Africa needs and Africa has what China needs, and that is all we need in our mutual understanding and respect as Xi told the world and Africa on Monday. Nothing is complex!

Probably, it is time for those who trumpet aloud about new Chinese colonialism to Africa to be realistic. Africans want to move forward and they have no time with anyone who wants to impose their will on others. Africans are growing tired of receiving charitable donations and being lectured endlessly; let the world understand!

[wanabidii] Tanzanian Youth: Our Turn to Lead the Nation is Now

Saturday, March 30, 2013 Add Comment
The Kilian Kamota's Call to All Tanzanian Youth: Our Turn to Lead the Nation is Now
By Kilian Kamota

The task is ours, the Tanzanian youth, to decide the future and the fate of our Nation. Our fathers, the first generation of leaders, have done their part; they fought political colonialism and afforded us the political independence. The time has come for them to pass on the torch to us, so we can fight for socio-economic independence. We must show up, accept the torch and lead our Nation into new horizons. The future of Tanzania is in our hands – the Tanzanian youth. This is the task we can not ignore; this is the task we can not pass to someone else. It is our task, it is our duty. The question is what are we going to do about it? Are we going to show up for this noble task? Are we going to report for duty? Or are we going to let our Nation stray into wilderness and chaos without leadership? Are we going to decide the fate of our own future or are we going to let few politicians decide our fate and our future?

Our fathers – the first generation of leaders – have grown old. Their actions and leadership can attest to that. The time has come for them to pass on the torch and for us to take the realm. Let us help them retire in peace as we take over the noble task of leading our nation.

Letter to the First Generation of Leaders – Good Bye and Good Luck
On behalf of all Tanzanian youths', i wish to express sincere gratitude to our fathers – the first generation of leaders – for all the hard work and dedication to our Nation. Your hard work and efforts is truly appreciated, it will not be forgotten and will not perish in vain. We will always cherish all that you were able [and not able] to achieve. And to that end, we want to wish you good health and good luck as you retire in peace. Please take on your new task of advising the new generation and raising grand children at home. Please retire in peace and watch us – your children – take on our new task of leading the Nation. You have educated us enough, you have prepared us enough and now we are telling you that we are ready to lead our Nation and take it into new horizons.

We salute you and bid you farewell – all Tanzanian workers and farmers of the 1960's, 70's, and 80's.

Letter to the Tanzanian Youth – Please Report for Duty.

On behalf of the new Tanzanian generation, I call upon all Tanzanian youths to report to work. Welcome to your new position, welcome to the future. This is not a political movement; it has nothing to do with politics, religion or tribes; it has nothing to do with party or political affiliation.  This is a National movement and  has everything to do with the future of our Nation. Regardless of party or political affiliation, all Tanzanian youth must assume leadership responsibility anywhere they are and start working today to lead our Nation towards new horizon. True leadership has nothing to do with ones level or title in the society. There are many individuals in the world who don't hold leadership position, yet they are providing leadership all the time, just as there are many others who hold leadership position, and yet they are not providing much leadership at all. let us provide the new leadership that is in dire need to transform our Nation.

Serious time's calls for serious measures. We must have a sense of urgency and seriousness on the matters dear to our hearts. We must united together and forgo our religion and political affiliation and work together to provide the leadership needed to resuscitate our nation.

How Do We Start the New Task of Leading Our Nation?
By revolutionizing our minds- The time has come for us to acquire a revolution in our mindset. A revolution that will enable us to see things
from a different perspective; a revolution that will enable us to have a new world view, a new intellectual framework, and a new paradigm from which to see both the current requirements for leading our Nation and the challenges of creating institutions capable of qualitative and transformational change in performance and service deliver

By educating ourselves in two fronts:
First by acquiring plenty of formal education [college and university education], civil education pertaining to our rights, our democracy, and our constitution etc,
Secondly, by developing ourselves intellectually and leadership-wise so we can assume the leadership positions at hand.

By educating others in two fronts:
First by educating and encouraging others to attain formal education because education still remains to be the key and the foundation of everything.
Secondly by mentoring others to become future leaders. We must understand how to and the importance of leadership succession plan – how to train, prepare and transform others into future managers and leaders

By becoming participative citizens in two fronts:
First, by responsibly participating in civil matters like elections. We must register to vote and vote responsibly.
Secondly, by seeking leadership positions in the coming elections so we can have representative and a voice in deciding about our fate and future.
By developing a culture of discipline in two fronts: first at home [i.e. in our lives and lifestyle] and secondly, at work [kwakuwa na nidhamu ya kazi, kuheshimu sheria na taratibu makazini, kuchukia rushwa, na kuwa wakweli]

There is a need to reform, reinvent, redesign, restructure and reorganize the Tanzanian government. There is a need for new systems and new ways of doing things. There is a need for a new leadership paradigm in Tanzania; a paradigm that will come with a new breed of leaders. Tanzania is approaching a defining moment in the Nation's history. The decisions that will be made in the near future will determine whether the country will gloriously evolve to greatness or stumble closer to crumble.

Asanteni

I remain,
Truly Yours Muya Kamota!

BARUA YA WAZI KWA TUME YA ELIMU YA KUFELI 60% MTIHANI WA KVI 12012 ILIYOTEULIWA NA MHE WAZIRI MKUU

29/03/2013

Kumb Na. JJM/2013/ELIMU/19

Kwa Mwenyekiti
Tume ya Elimu  ya Kufeli KIV
Ofisi ya Waziri Mkuu

DAR ES SALAAM

Ndugu Mwenyekiti

KUONGEZEKA WANAOFELI KIV KUTOKA 9.7% MWKA 2007 HADI 60% 2012

Wasalamu

Joseph J Mungai MB mstf

Jana Usiku Nimeongea Na Ndugu Yangu Absalom Kibanda...!

Ndugu zangu,

' Njiani Kwenda Kwa Rais!'- 4

Ndugu zangu,

Jana niliandika, kuwa ili  tufahamu zaidi urafiki uliokuwepo wa watatu hawa; Julius, Oscar na Rashid  ni vema tufahamu jinsi walivyokutana;

Naye akafika mpaka Uingereza kusomea sheria. Hakumaliza masomo yake, .... Soma zaidi..http://mjengwablog.co.tz/siasa/item/1910-njiani-kwenda-kwa-rais-4.html#.UVZ1uTdafx0

[wanabidii] Scholarship as Liberation?

Saturday, March 30, 2013 Add Comment
Subject: [UDADISI: Rethinking in Action] Scholarship as Liberation?

Scholarship as Liberation?

"We find little evidence for modernization theory"-Willa Friedman et al.

Chambi Chachage

Willa Friedman, Michael Kremer, Edward Miguel and Rebecca Thornton's (2011) article on 'Education as Liberation?' reignites the debate on impacts of formal education. Based on a follow-up survey of a randomized girls' merit scholarship program in Kenya it provides empirical evidence on the efficacy of modernization theory vis-à-vis empowerment and liberal views in explaining gendered impacts of education.

As someone who has worked in a non-governmental organization that advocates for the right to access education, known as HakiElimu, in Kenya's neighboring country of Tanzania after being trained by a professor of international education, Kenneth King, I find the findings particularly interesting. On the one hand one of their overall conclusions that they find that there is little evidence for modernization is startling as far as gender is concerned. Since gender is very central in Friedman et al.'s survey – as the scholarship program is primarily about uplifting the girl child in an education system that is still modernist – any compelling evidence of such uplift would be a significant affirmation of modernization. In fact the researchers confirmed that the program persistently raised the girls' test scores and secondary schooling. However, by associating the link between democratization and education without unpacking the nature of patriarchy and the type of democracy that has been promoted in Kenya the researchers tend to conflate modernization, empowerment and liberal views in their explanation on the social and political impacts of the program as evidenced below:

We find that exposure to the program reduces young women's acceptance of the right of men to beat their wives and children and there is evidence it reduces the likelihood that parents are involved in choosing their daughter's spouse. These findings are broadly consistent with both modernization theory as well as the view that education promotes a desire for autonomy and empowerment, but are harder to reconcile with the claim that education tends to reinforce existing patterns of authority (Friedman et al. 2011: 4-5).

The empowerment view, at least in the ways it had been advocated by the likes of Antonio Gramsci, Frantz Fanon, Paulo Freire and even Julius Nyerere, all of whom the researchers quotes, was not centered on liberal democracy that is at the heart of the political dispensation in Kenya as it is in its education system. When this is unpacked one can locate the following findings within such a liberal conception of democracy:

The evidence on attitudes beyond the household is not consistent with a modernization perspective but is more readily explained by the empowerment view of education. In particular, there is no evidence that the human capital created by the [Girl Scholarship Program] GSP leads to more pro-democratic or secular attitudes, or weakened ethnic identification. In fact, there is suggestive evidence that ethnic identity grows stronger among program beneficiaries, despite the Kenyan school curriculum's stated aim of promoting feelings of national unity (Friedman et al. 2011: 5).

On the other hand, however, the researchers provide a compelling innovating way of unpacking confounding explanations on causality. They used experimental designs to measure, by way of separation, the impact of the program on acceptance of authority, that is, in such a way that the possibility of reversal causality as thus illustrated is controlled: "if those who are less willing to accept authority are less likely to stay in school, cross-sectional correlations between education and acceptance of authority will confound the causal impact of education on willingness to accept authority with the impact of acceptance of authority on education" (Friedman et al. 2011: 5). They thus strongly show the evidence that "education reduces willingness to accept authority" (Friedman et al. 2011: 26). But, again, their reluctance to unpack liberal democracy as highlighted above leads them to interpret this as affirming that 'there is little support for the direct impact of education on 'modern' values" (Friedman et al. 2011: 16).

In line with the researchers attempt to combine experimentation and non-experimental literature it is recommended that they also rigorously engage with critiques of liberal democracy in Africa. Such critiques, particularly those emanating from transformative feminism, unpack the ways in which patriarchy continue to manifests itself through the imposition of liberal democracy and market fundamentalism in the social sectors such as health, water and education to reproduce gendered patterns of domination. In such a setup a seemingly benign educational program could promote empowerment with one hand and take it with another hand. What one may observe as the fostering of individual autonomy could actually be an imposition of another form of authority.
